The man who runs it does not speak much English so I had to communicate with him in french (which he soeaks fluently and I dont!) but he was so sweet and friendly and always asked what time I would like breakfast and he was happy to do it whatever i asked for. You dont get a key for the entrance of the riad so you have to ring the bell but he always answered wirh a smile even when late (about midnight was the latest night i got back). The facilities in the room was basic but the riad has a vrry authentic and traditional feel and the comuunal areas are beautiful and peaceful including a rooftop terrace and a traditional open terrace on the ground floor, where breakfast was served, with a (mini) pool. You'll find riads with better more facilities but if would thouroughly recommend staying here, especially if you're on a budget.

This was the least hospitable riad we stayed at in Marrakesh. The room did not have working air conditioning, and the street our room faced was very busy so it was noisy at night with the window open. The bathroom was poorly designed because the shower was directly in front of the sink with no curtain to separate it, so we were standing in the wet shower when using the sink. The location is not far from the main square, but you have to walk through areas without sidewalks to access them. We also disliked that we were not given a key to the front door like we were at other riads and we had to ring the doorbell every time we came back to our room. We had much better experiences at other riads that charged the same price.

When we arrived, the first impression was a rather unappealing and unclean “pool” that didn’t feel inviting to use. The staff member who greeted us was friendly, but communication was quite difficult since he only spoke French. We tried using Google Translate, which helped a little, but it wasn’t enough to have a proper conversation. From the first to the last night, it was a disaster. We were given a room with a window facing the street, and we could hear everything – cars, mopeds, horses, people – going on non-stop until around 2 AM. We complained in the morning, but they wouldn’t let us change rooms even though we were the only guests at the hotel. I also contacted Hotels.com to try and get a refund so we could book another hotel, but nothing came of it since the hotel manager didn’t answer the phone and the support staff couldn’t help. I later noticed a small wooden window inside our bathroom that led directly to the staircase used by all guests – meaning people could hear everything happening in the bathroom if they walked past, which didn’t feel very pleasant or private.

Gorgeous riad. Yes it's a little dated and needs some maintenance, but it's absolutely charming, clean and brilliant value for money. Ibrahim is very friendly and helpful, no English but we still managed to comunicate. The roof terrace is fabulous, 3 levels and several seating areas. Breakfast is more than adequate and tea or coffee are always available. Focus on the lovely birdsong not the traffic noise. (You're're in a city what do you expect) Great location, right next to Bahia Palace and short walk to cafes and souks. I can't wait to return xx

Cons: Loved my stay at Riad Marelia, absolutely nothing to dislike. Just do your research! Hotel or Riad?? Bright rooms and swimming pool?? Airport shuttle is a must for me, I don't want to drag my case through the souk looking for an elusive riad door! Marrakech is unique, if you want perfection go to Dubai, otherwise have an open mind, lower your expectations and immerse yourself in the history and culture of this amazing city.

Sooo… the Riad in good location, walkable every where , 2 minutes Bahia Palace, 8-10 minutes to Koutoubia and El Jemma square, 5 minutes to Souk. Lots of dining places. As for Riad, old, rooms small, i had twin room just for myself it was small, there were 3 beds actually. Breakfast is bread pita, crepes, coffee, juice, olives. No fruits, no eggs- was a problem for me as I am more on eating healthy staff and was craving for normal breakfast. But 3 minutes walk there is a small like street place they make eggs over there. Also, if you need hair dryer need to ask, cause there was no inside the room. Btw, as for the owner Ibrahim, very nice old men, no speaking english (just French and Arabic), but very nice attentive. Would I stay there again, probably not, but more because it is noisy street, very noisy. And too much going on around there. Overall for that price it worth of it, cause I also was booking last minute. Also, no need to take tours around there, just explore everything by yourself, cause it is great location for it.

This riad is a nice traditional riad it has a very authentic moroccon feel to it. It is is a little dated, so dont expect luxury, but it is still good and a very charming riad. It is clean and we did not face any real issues with it. Breakfast is okay, but not much variety though. We also had to buy soap as the soap provided was very small. The surrounding area seems a little scary but is completely fine, locals are very friendly and amazing people!! Very close to Bahia palace, Koutubia and mosque other main attractions. There is parking nearby, but you have to pay. Please note that if you do not speak French it is a little hard to communicate with the Riad’s receptionist/housekeeper but you can use google translate, but he is very sweet and does his best. We had to leave for the airport at 6:30 and he accomodated and made breakfast early for us, which you would not get at big restaurants. The manager was also very helpful with any quieries or favours! Overall great stay

The facilities are very comfortable and clean, and the staff in general were very attentive and caring. Even though he doesn't speak English, Mr. Ibrahim did everything he could to make us feel comfortable. He was very loving kind and attentive, and told us the best places to visit and what to look out for. I speak a little French, so we could talk a little each day. Even though he was far away, Morad also showed us his attention and care. I don't know if it's because we went in February, but the Riad's terrace could have been more attentive. It has a beautiful view and the sun shines fantastically. We couldn't leave the Riad without visiting the terrace every day. The breakfast was excellent, and I must mention the wonderful tea they offered us. We will definitely visit again.

Cons: Kind cold during the night.

Cons: The property is very nice, but there are some small changes you can make like working on the rooftop adding new sunbath chairs doing it up would make huge improvements our room had few electrical issues some plugs were working some were not and the sink drain was very slow but other than that it was nice and cosy place host was very welcoming

The property's location was extremely central, providing easy access to everything in the heart of the city. The rooftop was a standout feature, offering a fantastic spot to sunbathe all day while enjoying a beautiful view. Additionally, Ibrahim, the person responsible for guest relations, was exceptionally kind and helpful. We truly appreciated the way he treated us and made our stay so pleasant. The breakfast was always prepared and ready, whether we woke up early or decided to sleep in. It was a wonderful experience overall!

Cons: While the property’s central location was a major advantage, it did come with some drawbacks. Unfortunately, the noise from outside the building was noticeable, especially since our room faced the street. During the early morning hours, when traffic and rush hour began, the sounds from the street were quite audible, which occasionally disrupted our peace. Despite this, the overall experience was still enjoyable.

The location was very central, very close to the Bahia Palace and the souks and the squares where all the restaurants and activities are, and not far from the Saardian Tombs. The breakfast was simple but ample: juice, all the coffee you wanted, bread, various pancakes, muffins, plus jam, marmalade, honey. You eat it in a beautiful courtyard, full of birdsong. Marrakesh is an exciting but intense city, and the riad provided an oasis of calm to retreat back to, to rest and recharge. Morad sorted out the taxi shuttles to and from the airport, so no stress there, and in the riad Ibrahim was a fantastic host. If you wanted some tea or coffee he would provide it at any time, at no extra charge. If you can speak a little simple French it would be helpful. However, if you want to stay somewhere that feels very Moroccan, but is comfortable, friendly and safe, I recommend Marélia highly. It felt like a home from home.

The stay was lovely beacuse of the host and warm feeling, but there were some issues during our stay. A/C in the room was not working, there was no swimming pool, restaurant (except for breakfast) nor beauty/massage services on the premises, as was written in the advertiment. The breakfast was quite narrow and exactly the same every day (would've been nice with some fresh veggies or fruits). The room had a bathtub, but you were not able to use it, since there was no plug. The building was nice, but could use some new furniture and f.ex. cozy lights for the evenings.

The location

Cons: Don’t stay at this riad!! They do not help you with anything! They don’t print your boarding tickets, they don’t receive card to pay your stay, the property is old and it’s not well managed, it’s nothing like the pictures. When we arrived all the lights were turned off. The smell is not nice, the old man that is in charge is gentil but he only speaks French, so that’s a limitation! This Riad doesn’t have the facilities that a traveller needs. The guy of the first Riad I stayed in was the one who helped me with everything even though I wasn’t staying there anymore. If you’re reading this I recommend this Riad: Moullaty Lalla Khadija &Spa

I cannot fault the host. He was an elderly gentleman, who did his best to help us with sourcing a taxi for an early morning flight. Unfortunately there was a language barrier, so we didn't always understand each other. The riad itself is a lovely space, unfortunately our room was lacking any working plug points. Both beds were broken, as they made a lot of noise, whenever you moved.. Our room faced the main street , and was quite noisy, day and night. There were nowhere to hang clothes and nothing to hand them with, so we literally lived out of the suitcase. The wifi was very intermittent, only being able to get coverage when either by the bedroom door, or downstairs in the reception area. The riad says breakfast included, however breakfast was nothing other than re heated bread, omelette. and Luke warm coffee or mint tea every day. We had an episode were we returned from a spa day, there was noone to let us back in,so we stood outside for approximately 10-15 minutes, the contact number on the website does not work. The riad is located close to many attractions and the main square, which is a bonus. The rating it has I believe needs to be lowered.

We had the worst possible treatment from the host. Room was ok.

Cons: The host was extremely rude. Did not speak any English or Spanish and when we tried to ask him for someone to help us communicate or use google translate to Arabic he got upset. First, we were not clear why he was charging us almost 20 euro more vs what the Booking reservation said. And he got very rude when we were asking. I had to look for the booking receipt to detail, if he would have explained that we would have avoided a really unpleasant check-in. Then, the day before check out HE OFFERED we could leave our bags in the lobby after checkout because we had a late flight. The day of the check-out he asked if we could leave 30 minutes early of the stated time “because new customers where coming” (or that is what we understood…) but we had already an experience booked and said no, that we would leave at the exact hour (12m). During the check-out, at the correct time noon, he basically kicked us out and said we could not leave anything there because there would be no one later to open (for me a lie because there is never an empty Riat if there are customers). Anyway… we where left on the street with no plan and our bags for all day. It was the worst experience we had on our trip, really disappointed because all other Moroccan people except that man are real nice.

The location is good, just a two minutes walk from the Bahia Palace and an interesting walk through the Souks to the Jemaa el-Fnaa city square. Marrakech is a riot of sound, scent and sights. There are more Souks then I could see in 7 days. Plenty of cafes, restaurants and a few bars serving alcoholic drinks. Be prepared for a lot of traffic - motorcycles riding through the souks are a hazard, for the danger of collision and for their fumes.

Cons: This Riad is very run-down, and not properly maintained. eg: broken toilet seat; broken shower which points to the wall; one non-working bedside light and the only accessible bedside mains socket was not working; room centre-light not working; Bathroom wall-lights hanging by their cables; chipped sink; worn-out carpets and towels. Advertised as having an "indoor swimming pool" (this is the reason I chose it). However it has only the usual decorative half-moon small pool, open in the centre of the property. One could paddle in it, if it were cleaner. However, you definitely cannot SWIM! When I asked the manager "Ou est la piscine?" he laughed. Breakfast was pancakes, bread and jam with coffee and orange juice. No fruit or cheese. When I asked "avez-vous du fromage?" he replied "demain" (tomorrow). The next day, two triangles of processed cheese appeared, but not subsequently, though I did ask again. Now, I know this is a poor country, and so I just dialled-down my expectations. However, subsequently during my visit, I met an American, an Englishman, a Scot and an Austrian couple. I asked each of them about their Riads and the price they paid. Every one was vastly better - and at a similar price: I saw photos of colourful rooms, all very clean and with a much better breakfast.

The Riad is beautiful and well located (Taxi can drop you off right in front of it which is rare in the medina) the room was beautiful.

Cons: Breakfast is poor given the price for the room. More salty options and eggs would be great. The curfew is non sense, invest in a key and dont make people come before midnight so the staff can open you the door. The guy was nice enough to still open the door for us but we felt very bad about it. When we wanted to check out the guy kept knocking on my door exactly two minutes past check out time and literally said : we need the room, it's time to check out. I was already on my way out and waiting 5 minutes wouldn't hurt anyone. WiFi is useless.

Riad is fantastic, really beautiful, and people so kind and helpful. We arrived by night and had a little problem with our room, but they immediately found a very convenient solution for us. To be honest, it was not easy to find it in the dark, but keep in mind that from Palace Bahia is a few meters away (3minutes walking). Just follow the main road and do not enter into narrow streets. Our taxi driver was in hurry to go eating after Ramadan fastening and drop us off in front of the Palace. Google maps do not work very well due to narrow streets of the Medina, but Riad Marelia is on the main road. Thank you for everything and we hope to see you again at magic Riad.

3 nights experience, Salome room. Very clean and impeccable. Brahim is a sweetheart, but quiet in overall. Loved the pancakes. He doesn't speak english, just some french. Shower is metallic, so do not open the hot water first!. Neither close the cold water. It burns!! Good price. This is the right number from their Instagram page 33767492477 It is just a place to sleep, do not expect much tourist guidance. Breakfast has no protein (eggs or cheese). They now have hair dryer, which is great help! My room was noisy, because is over the street (Salomé), but it is part of the experience. Bring earplugs. There are not tables/chairs to put our stuff in the room, only two tiny night tables, so our stuff was always in the floor. There is a paper in the room saying the Riad open until 12:30am but in reality it was until midnight (even if it is the Ramadan excuse, the paper must be updated). This must also be inform with the booking, as I wanted to be out later. I totally understand it is to help the manager sleep pattern, but I would prefer to know and pick another place as we are young. Expedia says 24 hours front desk but they don't have enough staff to do this. Expedia say spa treatments, but I couldn't even get a phone number to book a hammam, so no spa, neither information. He did offer me to walk with me, but I needed the price, book over the phone etc. Our time is limited. Bring clean flip flops, as shower and sink share the same space so floor is always wet.

It is an old Riad with a very authentic vibe, there are several seating options on the rooftop terrace so you can have a bit of privacy and the location is perfect. Situated just a few minutes walking from Bahia Palace, the Riad is close to the vibrant area but our room was quiet.

Cons: Overall everything is dated and not maintained very well. Also the cleanliness was not on point. The shower head fell off the wall, the towels looked dirty and were very old, the bathroom was not spotless, the bed was very small and the mattress was bumpy. The rooftop could be amazing if it was just maintained better, the cushions are old and a bit moulded and the whole place could use a good paint. Breakfast is made with love but nothing too special, but i did like the coffee :) The host that we met was an older man, very kind, but did not speak a word english. Eventually we managed to communicate with little words and a lot of hand gestures! Also prepare to pay cash as the property does not have any card payment options.

This Riad was the best stay I have ever had when traveling, and I travel a lot! What made it so special, in addition to the very convient location that is close to all the sights in Marrakech, is the caretaker of the property. He was so incredibly kind and generous to us during our stay. each morning he would make us Moroccan tea, and ask what time we wanted breakfast, which was in traditional Moroccan style. He was extremely attentive to us and just made our trip so much better! I cant emphasize enough how authentic and charming of a Riad this is — book it!

Cons: Honestly nothing. it’s a perfect and affordable place to stay in marrakesh that is authentic, beautiful, close to all the sights, and has the most kind hearted caretaker. After a day exploring Marrakesh, coming back here each evening and seeing a friendly face open the door made it feel like home

Good location. The room is basic with a stylish bathroom. The twin room faces the street and there is some traffic noise, but it's pretty even and the room is completely dark, so we slept well. The sympathetic host does not speak a word of English. The facilities are in good condition, but they would need a bit better cleaning to keep the beautiful rooftop terrace and tablecloths and bedspreads clean. The declared swimming pool is a small rather dirty decorative pool. Wifi was slow but worked. Nice breakfast. All in all, you get good value for the affordable price.

Cosy place that was perfect for me and my mom. The decor is very beautiful and staff very attentive. A good place to relax after a long flight, quiet atmosphere. They were flexible about our checkout time and allowed us to rest in the lobby, which was so appreciated.

DONT STAY AT THIS RIAD! I WAS SEXUALLY ASSULTED BY THE MANAGER Ibrahim!!!!! I chose this riad because it was close to the mallah in the Medina. I saw some good reviews so I felt I could trust it DONT BE FOOLED!!!! DO NOT STAY AT THIS RIAD!! I WAS SEXUALLY ASSAULTED BY THE MANAGER!! on my last night at the riad I returned from the Jemaa El Afna. to enter the Riad the manager must open the door, when I entered he walked with me towards the stairs to my room and sexually assaulted me!! I was completely shocked I ran to my room and left as quick as possible in the morning. I didn’t know what to do with myself and I am still shocked. I thought I could trust the riad from the good reviews I saw DONT BE FOOLED!! I tried to contact the owner of the riad who was just as disgusting and unhelpful. he showed no remorse and shared no apology. he blamed me and said “I hope you have proof”. this place should be shut down or at least taken off of booking.com and all other sites so that other people don’t experience this horror! After this happened I looked back and saw another review by a solo female traveler who came forward with the same claims and nothings has been done! Why?! Why haven’t these sites taken the riad off the booking options. You could be saving lives but instead you ignore! Hurtful and disappointing

Riad Marelia, is a beautiful Riad, with very kind and helpful staff. The Riad is perfectly situated, very easy to access, so perfect for solo female travellers, as it is not tucked away in small alleys. The only down side is that it might be a bit noisy depending on where your room is situated, but the street is only busy during the day. Brahim the Care taker of the house is so very nice, he makes you feel like you are home. The interior is traditional modern and has a unique flare. Breakfast is delicious, different breads and jam and eggs. I'm sure if you like something else Brahim would make it for you. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely revisit.

We had a very warm welcome by Vrahim. He took care of everything in the hotel except the cleaning. Our room was on the top floor, very simple but there was everything we needed. It was also very quiet which was nice after the chaos in Mellah, next to Bahia Palace. It had air conditioning so we got warm air to the room as it was cold at nights already. Our breakfast, cooked by Vrahim, was pancakes with different jams and honey, fresh orange juice and coffee. The hotel was a wonderful experience.

Several years ago I stayed in a superb riad in Marrakech. This year my daughter and I stayed in two rooms at Riad Marelia.  What a contrast!  The photographs on the website are most deceptive.  Marelia was not really dirty but certainly not clean. Beds were OK but hard. The water from the shower flooded the whole bathroom floor so after that I had to dam the area with towels.  There was an opening on the opposite wall and anyone looking through it from the stairs could see the person showering. Suspiciously there were marks on either side of the opening which looked as if they were hand prints as if someone had been supporting themselves while peering through! The breakfasts were unappetising and did not vary from day to day (breads/pancakes that never tasted entirely fresh, butter & preserves (with ant), orange juice and a choice of coffee or sweet mint tea).  The riad is situated on a corner and motorcycles were constantly revving past. On the first night I was still awake at 02:30 and got no more than five hours sleep. The next night was similar and despite taking sleeping pills I did not have sufficient sleep any of the four nights. It was hard to work out if the caretaker, Brahim, was trying desperately to please or just plain creepy. I suspect the latter as he kept blowing kisses to my daughter who is in her thirties. Rooms were cold, there was no safe and doors were secured with a flimsy padlock. On the plus side there was plenty of hot water and the location was conveniently near Bahia Palace. In a word - BASIC. Do NOT STAY.

We staying at the Riad for 4 nights in Feb. The location is great, situated very close to the palaces and local restaurants (although these are pretty poor and you're better to go further afield). The "large" taxis don't really like going to that area because of the tight corners in the road. It's a 20 minute leisurely stroll down market filled lanes to the main square and the Souks beyond. We received a lovely warm welcome from Ibrahim, who manages the property and is a real treasure, nothing was too much trouble, including breakfast at 6.30am on the day we left. Ibrahim doesn't speak English at all, amazing French. So if you don't speak French or Arabic you will undoubtedly struggle. In the Riad the room was really quite average, hence my score. Dark and just not very inviting, not nice pictures on the walls, etc., although they do have air con. The shower was good, with lashings of hot water. The beds were very hard. There's a lovely roof terrace with views up to the Atlas Mountains and scenic views across Marrakech. Breakfast was nice with two types of pancake, brioche buns, juice, lovely mint tea and really nice coffee. The wi-fi is good, not ultra fast, but very welcome. Overall the Riad is fine and we enjoyed our stay.

The Riad is beautiful, great views, nice decoration and the location ist great, BUT I am angry and saddened by the creepy advances of the Hotel Manager. I stayed here for 2 nights, one with a friend and one alone before leaving Morocco. After my friend had left, Ibrahim the Hotel Manager, started asking me rude questions about my private life and sexual preferences and tried to touch me. This made me feel incredibly uncomfortable and as there was only one other family staying who had just gone on a tour to the Medina actually fearing for me safety! I would not recommend this Riad to any woman traveling alone!

A very nice place with a beautiful view on the Atlas mountain. The room was as described on the pictures and perfectly clean. We had a warm welcome and the staff was very pleasant and always ready to help. We really enjoy our stay there and I would recommend it to anyone who really wants to have some peaceful time in a small part of paradise.

We booked the alledged 4* Marelia through Voyage Prive. I was initially on arrival very disappointed. The whole Riad is really tired looking. All the fabrics and seating were faded, dirty and stained. The walls needed a lick of paint. It had been raining but all the squabs on the terraces had gotten wet so couldn't be used. We had our welcome drink sat at a table that was dirty. The table was not cleaned for the entire four days we were there. Our room was comfortable and well appointed. We were given a heater which was greatly appreciated. Hot water, clean sheets. Further niggles included dirty cushions on top of the bed, brass plates missing from the back of the shower, 4 of the 6 pieces of pottery in the bathroom was cracked and broken and the electric sockets were broken and dangerous. On the plus side the location of the Riad is just perfect and we were extremely well looked after by Brahim. He was an absolute gentleman and could not do enough for us. I doubt I would stay at Marelia again which is a shame. It may have been 4* in its hay day but is in need of some serious investment.

To keep it to the point: Pros - Extremely nice owner; Brian, however he only spoke french. Good Moroccan tea and sweets. Cons - Taxi's could not get anywhere near this riad, expect a small trek. Arrived after a lot of hassle, to find the riad to be NOTHING like the website/booking agent showed us... Tiny rooms, damp, leak into one of our bedrooms, no safe, no locks on any doors including the front door to our rooms, dirty bathroom and floors. The tiny pool was clearly out of use as there was dirt covering the top and the terrace although had beautiful views was INCREDIBLY dirty... Words can't explain. After looking around and realising it was getting worse the more we looked, 3 hours in... We decided to leave even though we had paid non refundable nights. It was such a shame as the owner was very nice and very helpful but it just wasn't what we paid for.

First of all I want to say, that I fall in love with Marrakech. A friend and me booked "Le perroquet bleu" but it was full, so we had to go to riad marelia. At the end we're quit happy to stay in this riad. The room was nice, the breakfast was inclusive, the view awesome and the Medina 10 minutes away. My special thanks goes to Brahim, he is a very kind guy. He was there all over the time and whenever we needed something, he brought. I would book it again, and of course I do sometime. Greetings from Germany Franziska and Isabell!

The riad itself is quite nice and the breakfast extensive. BUT: We booked several rooms for 2 nights via mail, which the owners Marie et Pierre Vitoux (living and running a gallery in Paris, hence not present in Marrakesh) confirmed. However, all of a sudden we got one week before our arrival the notice, we´d get a room less (after we had already payed!), because other clients had decided to stay longer in this room. This caused a slight problem, to say the least, as we travelled in a group and were depending on the rooms! Impossible to find another riad for such a big group in such short notice, especially after having payed for the rooms already! In "exchange" the owners then offered the winter salon (without bathroom), which doesn´t properly close its door, so that the cold air at night in winter comes in, since it is in the patio, and just had a couch (for one person) which should then function as bed for two. They didn´t offer a compensation for the whole hassle, trying to sell the winter salon as "comfortable, if not even warmer and more confortable as all the other rooms", and only after a few mails back and forth added that they could pay back the amount for one of the already payed rooms. A few other things, such as ambiguous comments from the "gardien" (who is around the age of 60) to one of the woman in the group, visiting her while she entered the bathroom, added up to the experience. To say the least, this was one of the most unpleasant experiences in Marrakesh. Especially, since we had already planned on coming back with another group later this year, but after such a shamefully bloodsucking experience, this Riad is neither to be recommended nor to be visited again!
