We stayed in the Riad Perle D’eau for two nights and loved it so much that we booked four more. Firstly, if you have never strayed in a riad then DO IT. They are like Doctor Who’s Tardis., A small unassuming entrance and then boom, inside an oasis of beauty. Only a handful of rooms , built around a central core with lots of nooks and crannies just waiting to be discovered What a beautiful location. As I pen this I am sitting in the upper terrace, watching the sun rise over the ocean and listening to the sea crashing on the rocks below What great staff , the wonderful Ishmael with his welcoming smile and helpful thoughts, the marvellous Cabrera who organised for us a Hamman something or other and then a transcendental massage. I didn’t learn the name of everybody and feel guilty for that but without exception, everybody was so welcoming and, when far from home, that made out little hotel feel like home Did I forget to mention the breakfast, with so many things to choose from and such as selection of fine nibbles We were lucky enough to stay in a suite overlooking the ocean and sipped a white wine while listening to Adele singing about when she was young and watching the people frolic on the beach below For me an easy ten out of ten

I only stayed one night but the staff was so friendly and welcoming. The riad was beautiful inside and so was the room. Sheets and bedding covers may need renewals as there were markings of old stains. I was not in doubt that it was clean though and it wouldn’t abstain me from visiting again. The breakfast was lovely and the view from the roof amazing just by the beach.

Our stay could not have been more perfect. Check-in was easy and the receptionist spoke English fluently. She helped us coordinate an early check out the next morning as well as a porter to meet us at 5 AM to bring our items to the parking area and meet our taxi. The staff is very diligent, and the property is gorgeous. We had a room that had an ocean view and we were able to listen to the waves crash throughout the night. The shower is incredible and high-end toiletries are provided. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend this property to anyone.

Great location, and very nice people. But the room was dark and mildewy, and the breakfast service was poor. Plus, the power went off, and they made us pay extra expenses in cash.

The hotel is in need of complete refurbishment it is tired and the plaster is falling off the walls in places. The rooms were far below what was expected and were a massive disappointment. We mainly booked this hotel due to the views but this was only from the rooftop. The facilities were also not as advertised and did not exist! Overall it was a dreadful 3 nights and I would not recommend staying. The spa was also one of the worst experiences although the therapists were very good.

A very well located hotel in the center of the Medina on the seaside, loved their breakfast and the view from the roof top terrace where the breakfast was served. Rooms are nicely decorated and well equipped. Also the service was mostly super friendly and staff helpful. However, we had ordered a room with twin beds as I was traveling with my son, but they did not have one available and the process sorting the issue out was not entirely smooth. I would recommend to write an separate email in addition to the reservation to confirm you'll get what you've ordered.

This is a lovely road located just off the Main Street inside the Medina. It may be difficult to find at first. I suggest getting one of those people with the wheel carts to bring you and your luggages to the riad. The staff there were absolutely lovely and kind and helpful! The owner of the riad is a retired gentlemen who would greet you every morning during breakfast. Breakfast is on the roof top Terrance over looking the ocean. The view is amazing.

Owner very arrogant. No internet in the room. When complained about it, owner doesn’t believe your complaint. IT person came to the room couldn’t fix the problem, Had to change to a lower quality room in order to have internet. Owner didn’t realize we were standing not far from the room while he was badmouthing us to the Housekeeper. Double charge for taxes and claimed to be paid in cash in addition to the room charge that included taxes already as per Expedia quote. Avoid this property if you want yo enjoy the city of Essaouira and the Great Moroccan people.

This is a lovely property with a friendly and helpful staff and proprietor. Clean, comfortable, and the included breakfast on the top terrace was a treat, as was the tea served upon our arrival. It's tucked away in a corner of the walled city and can be a little tricky to find, so pay attention to retrace your steps. They are also helpful with transfers, which I wish we had utilized. I had prearranged my own to Rabat and was overcharged even after negotiating the rate ahead of time.

We had very lovely time at the Riad. Charming and welcoming owner and the staff. Exquisite and spacious room with extremely comfortable bed. Tranquil breakfast on the rooftop terrace. The owner prepared special breakfast table for us and other guests leaving early to catch a bus on our last day. We especially enjoyed our conversation with the owner and the staff who made us feel at home. I also loved the hand soap in the room!

We had a wonderful 2 day stay( wished it was 3 days). We were greeted warmly by Ernst who took time to give us an overview of the sights of Essaouira and then a tour of the Riad. Upon seeing the ocean view from one of the suites we took the opportunity to upgrade and are extremely glad we did. The accommodations are generous in size, beautifully appointed and tranquil. Not only was the breakfast on the rooftop delicious the view was spectacular. It was very well located to explore the medina. It is most evident that Ernst and his wife take great pride in their Riad. The guests are made to feel at home . We would highly recommend staying here and hopefully we'll return someday.

This is a wonderful property. The owner welcomed us to his home, gave us an overview of the area, restaurant recommendations, and even put in a reservation at an excellent restaurant for us. The rooms are gorgeous - we didn't upgrade to the ocean side, but you could still hear the ocean and smell it on the breeze. We felt incredibly lucky to find this place especially on short notice, and felt totally spoiled for the 2 nights we were there. The breakfast is wonderful, the views amazing, and we hope we can return someday!

The guesthouse, owned and run by a Swiss couple, Ernst and Giselle, is right on the old ramparts overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. We opted to upgrade to a room with a view and were so glad we did. I'll never forget the view of the ocean and the cloudless blue sky from our window, nor getting lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves below. An excellent breakfast was served on the roof terrace, also with the ocean view. We had a delicious fish dinner at the guest house during our 3-day stay, which was a nice change from the tourist restaurants. the room was decorated nicely and everything was crystal clean.

Lovely Riad with a comfy king size bed and very spacious room. In the Medina, but right on the seawall side over looking the waves and beach far below. Breakfast on the rooftop was the perfect way to start my day. The owners, a lovely retired Swiss couple, are very involved in all aspects of your stay with them. The man that handles the front desk during the day (forgot his name) couldn't have been nicer.

Highly recommended. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay in the Deluxe Hanadama Suite - a private and spacious top floor unit offering spectacular views of sandy foreshore and ocean waves breaking over the rocks beyond. A hearty breakfast was provided each morning on the large, partially covered rooftop terrace. Even more appreciated was the opportunity to meet Ernest and Giselle, the proud builder and owners of this gorgeous Riad, and to admire the beautiful and unique decor. Their suggestions for nearby dining options (and booking our reservations) never failed to provide us with a delightful evening. This quiet Riad is conveniently located at edge of the walled city but only steps to one of the main shopping streets in the Medina (and easy to find our way home). The Riad Perle D'eau is aptly named and earns a stellar 10 out of 10 rating. With A/C it would be an 11.

Riad Perle d’Eau is located in a safe part of the Medina, just steps away from a main market street. We parked our car outside of the Medina and walked about 15-20 minutes to get there. Cost was around 30 Dh per day for parking. Several local people with carts offered to carry our bags and direct us to the Riad (for a fee of course). We declined and had no trouble locating the Riad on our own. Check in was very easy and welcoming. The room was beautiful and overlooked the water. We loved watching the tide come in, which brought the waves right up to the edge of the Riad—an incredibly unique experience! Breakfast each morning on the rooftop terrace was hearty and welcoming. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others!

This was an interesting place. I felt like I was staying in my uncle’s or grandfathers house but not in a good way. The riad itself was average/ nice but I think staying with owners who live on site is a bad idea. The room was clean and we had a non ocean view. I thought the riad was on a beach and while it is, its definitely not a swimmable beach. I won’t fault the hotels or owners for that but I didn’t care for the place at all.

I have traveled extensively and have stayed in hotels around the world that ranged from budget to luxury. There has only been one time that I used the word "exquisite" to describe any of these hotels. Now, after staying at the Riad Perle D'eau, I can use the word I am now using this word for a second time because it was really THAT GOOD! This riad is situated inside the Medina right on the sea wall. I splurged for the ocean-view room (which was actually reasonable) and it was absolutely gorgeous! the room was exceptionally well appointed and clean, and the view of the ocean from the bed was breathtaking! The owners Ernest and Giselle are delightful hosts, and they have thought of every possible touch to make your stay here relaxing, replenishing, and refreshing. Breakfast on the roof each morning was very satisfying way to start the day, and the on-site hamam and masseuse were a nice way to unwind after a leisurely stroll around the Medina and marina. I had been in Marrakech prior to coming to Essaouiria, and found that city to be overly stressful with aggressive touts around every corner. So, it was an absolute delight to come to this small laid back city, and the icing on the cake was certainly the Riad Perle D'eau. I am almost hesitant to share what a gem this place was as I always worry it may not be room availability for me next time if the word got out. However, a place this good deserves to be known and appreciated. Three thumbs up!!!

I was made to feel incredibly welcome from the moment I set foot in the Riad. The room was spacious & beautifully decorated. Breakfast on the terrace a wonderful way to start the day. Ernest & Giselle are generous hosts & the staff very personable & professional. The hammam is highly recommended. I thought the Riad would be difficult to find again as it is all like a maze in the Medina, but not the case. As a solo female traveller I was concerned for safety etc, but Essaouira & this riad were the perfect choice.

Riad was incredible. We were the only ones staying there at the time, so we got the full treatment. Aside from this though, the room that we stayed in on the water was unlike anything I've experienced before. Going to bed listening to the ocean and seeing the stars made this an unforgettable experience.

Best hotel or guest house bed I have slept on. View from breakfast terrace is amazing. Could have sat there all day and watched the ocean. WiFi was good and fast. Router played up and had to be restarted a couple of times whilst we were there but it took only a few minutes to sort. Second router giving a weaker signal could be used whilst the first was being restarted. Wines available and the one we had was very good. Hotel only has eight rooms and is set against the medina sea wall so is very quiet yet convenient being inside the Medina. We stayed three nights being an extended weekend break.

Had the Standard double room (not one of the rooms with the ocean view which were more expensive). The room was big but a little dark (windows toward inside court - this was not a problem as we did not spend the days in the room). Had a big bottle of water provided every day. Breakfast was served on the roof – wonderful view of the ocean. Staff friendly and helpful. The owner was present every morning at breakfast and in the evening. Had informative and pleasant discussions with him about local culture. Hotel location is great – in the Medina but close to the gates. Very quiet inside. If I ever go back to Essaouira, I will chose the same place.

We chose Giselle and Ernest's beautiful riad, based on the wonderful trip advisor reports - and without doubt they are all true. I don't feel the need to repeat all the previously said superlatives, so in an effort to add to them, we can confirm that Giselle and Ernest (along with Hisham) are wonderful hosts, with a hands on approach, ensuring every guest felt comfortable and welcome. We arrived early evening, on a rainy night, and not really wanting to explore the town, hunting for somewhere to eat, we enquired if it was too late to eat in. It was, but as we only wanted a light meal, Ernest was extremely accomodating and provided at a very reasonable cost, a soup along with a larger portion of the starter that the dinner guests were having, and it was sensational! - we did not go hungry that night! This gave us a taster of what their excellent cook is capable of, so we decided to eat in again later in our stay, choosing what we might like to eat, and leaving it to Ernest and Cook to produce the most delicious 4 course meal. As we were the only guests dining in that night, Giselle and Ernest joined us, and we had a most memorable and lovely evening, learning so much about - well, everything! Ernest's local restaurant recommendations are also spot on and worth trying. All in all, we had a wonderful stay, and can thoroughly recommend. Room Tip We stayed in a good value room in the rear annex, which of course did not have sea views, but was roomy and lovely and quiet.

The superlatives have all been used by other reviewers and for good reason. It's hard to know which element of this riad makes it so uniquely special. Is it the amazing attention to detail and quality shown in the impressive reconstruction finished less than one year ago? Perhaps the oasis of tranquility that it offers from the hubbub outside? Could it be the jaw-dropping views of the ocean as it crashes over the rocks below, at once fierce and restful? How about the luxury of the on-site hammam? Whilst all of these are undeniably true, the single best feature of this riad is undoubtedly the warmth and generosity of spirit of the owners, Gisele and Ernest. They immediately made us feel welcome with their easy charm, offered us great dining recommendations, tended to our every need and even offered us the benefit of Ernest's impressive and formidable chess experience for personal tuition (not that it helped much!). For the duration of our stay here, we felt more like welcomed house-guests than paying customers. Thank you and best wishes for the future.

We've stayed in Essaouira before and in a more expensive Riad, but this was much better. The owners Ernest and Giselle were charming, helpful and cheerful and introduced us to many superb local restaurants. The Riad is spectacularly decorated and furnished and the views across the quiet beach and the sea were wonderful. We've visited Essaouira three times now, I cannot dream of staying anywhere else in the future.

Ok, the first thing to say about Perle d’Eau is that it is just a fabulous place to stay. It is immaculate, spotlessly clean, and the design and décor are first class. The views along the coasts from the roof terrace are fantastic. The rooms are beautiful, and the interior design touches are very well thought out. Gisele and Ernst were perfect hosts – very helpful and friendly and were keen to ensure our stay was perfect. If you are planning a trip to Essaouira, then if you want luxury and comfort this has got to be the place to stay. Make no mistake, Ernst is aiming to be the best in the area, and if you leave it too long to visit, you won’t be able to make a booking – they’ll all be taken. Before I go off the scale(!), breakfast were good and filling and we also ate in the Riad one night and that too was an excellent meal, with a very interesting starter and even more interesting dessert, and in the middle a great lamb Tagine. The Perle d'eau just off one of the main streets in the Medina, meaning its quite central to everything. Although thewalk up to the hotel down a very narrow road might be a little daunting for single female travellers. If you could give a place 7 stars , this place would easily take them!
