This hotel is full of traditional charm and located midway down the main shopping street of the old Medina so while it is easy to get lost in the many little alleyways Maison du Sud is easy to find. It is a shot walk to the beach and a shorter walk to get on the walls. My room #17 was huge sleeps 4 for just me and while it overlooked the street it was surprisingly quiet. Breakfast was ok I was here 3 nights and was only offered carbs except one hard boiled egg and yogurt with a banana. All staff friendly and helpful. I would recommend! WiFi worked sometimes but I’m realizing that is consistent with everyplace I’ve stayed in Morocco.

Cons: Comme chambre au 1er prix, il existe les chambre en duplex. Attention si vous avez un problème avec les escaliers MAIS ils ont changé la chambre pour une piece classique des possible, cela veux dire le lendemain. La rue est un peu bruyante

Architecturally the house is beautiful and old. The service was always on point and helpful. There are plants all over and the courtyards are beautiful.
Cons: My room was dirty. From light switches and and sink handles to towels I was almost close to not staying, but looking for an alternative. The nightstands have not been cleaned in a long time and dust is building up. The bedding was clean and the floors too but the rest, especially in the bathroom was hard to accept. The location right in the Medina is great, though with it comes that there seems to have been live music show in the neighbouring building which kept me up until 11pm every night. This is not the hotels fault though. The roof terrace is completely neglected.

Lovely Moroccan hotel. I stayed here for 1 night at the end of a 1 week horse riding trip. My room was very comfortable and I loved the decor and traditional design of the hotel interior. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was great.

Ambient and the location of the place is a hit! With no doubt it looks amazing.
Cons: The place is a bit mushy. I understand that you can't install AC due to authenticity of the place however in bathroom there is some mold growing on the walls. There is not much of air in the rooms too so problem is the ventilation in general as it seems. Apart from that place is marvelous.

Cons: C est le pire Riad en 15 jours, J avais réservé une chambre, ce n était pas la même que sur la photo… Pas de sourire, mal entretenu, pas de Clim ( il fait pas chaud à Essaouira), eau chaude longue à venir mais surtout tout est vieux… La peinture, les rideaux, les draps… Nous avons eu bcp de bruit dans la rue, nuit et jour, la chambre était censée donner sur la cour… Bref J ai payé presque 150 euros pour une grande chambre pas très jolie et pas confortable. Pareil pour le petit déjeuner, pas digne du prix et du Maroc…

We had an amazing time at this riad. Everything was spotless, the bathroom was modern and clean, and we were generously upgraded to a terrace room for free. Breakfast was delicious and varied. The location is perfect, just 5 minutes from the beach and right in the heart of the old Medina. A peaceful, charming stay. Would definitely come back!

It’s a beautiful place with cozy areas to hang out with friends down stairs plus a great staff that fed me well. I’m vegetarian & gluten free but they understood and took great care of me. I got sick one afternoon during the Gnawa festival and the staff brought me hot tea, food, and checked on me while I recovered. I fell in love with Morocco on my first trip here and this is now my fourth time in this country. Moroccan hospitality is better than any of the 30 countries I’ve visited! The staff at this Riad are so wonderful!!

Cons: La fin du séjour. Sans mon accord on m’a collé un porteur alors que j’avais une toute petite valise à roulettes. J’ai dû le rémunérer (pas assez à son goût…) je voyage beaucoup notamment en Asie, je ne me fais pas forcer la main de cette façon. Je revendique de voyager de façon autonome Le taxi réservé par l’hôtel a pratiqué un tarif plus élevé qu’habituellement.

Je passais d'un Riad à l'autre, cherchant un refuge pour mon esprit errant, jusqu'à ce que je découvre cet havre de paradis, véritable maison du coeur: Dar l'kbira. Un sentiment apaisant m'a envahie, comme une douce brise au creux des murs, me reliant à une nostalgie hors du temps. Une étrange sensation d'appartenance, comme si les murs murmuraient: "Tu es chez toi!". Ici, passé et présent s'alignent, portés par un souffle de paix, d'amour et de joie profonde. Pour faire simple: le petit déj était délicieux et copieux, le patio apaisant, et la chambre d'une propreté irréprochable. Les tableaux colorés qui ornent les murs insufflent une âme vibrante et un charme unique. Le gentleman à la reception est d'une bienveillance sans égal, tout comme le mr qui m'a aidée avec mon bagage. Je recommande les yeux fermés!

The location on one of the main streets of Essaouira was wonderful and easy to find, which made the whole experience very pleasant. The room itself was also very nice, being separated in a living room and a bedroom upstairs. The breakfast was also wonderful in the morning. The rooftop terrace is definitely a hidden gem in Essaouira, I would definitely recommend checking it out! The staff was friendly and professional.

Cons: Our first allocated room looked a bit shabby but the staff immediately switched us and then we couldn't have been happier. The room was beautifully decorated.We chose the quadruple room, which we were grateful for as it meant we all had our own space.

The staff were incredibly friendly, the decor is definitely a little shabby-chic, but in a truly delightful manner. It’s right in the heart of the medina, and you step out of the door right into the middle of Moroccan life.
Cons: There are little steps up and down everywhere. My wife gripped up a tiny step by the bed, and had to spend 2 days recovering with very strong painkillers.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The room was spacious, decorated beautifully and there was a vase of fresh roses on the table in our sitting area, in fact there were fresh roses throughout the riad. It was quiet and peaceful and we had a good sleep. It was one of the best riads we stayed in throughout Morocco.

The room was very big and comfortable we had it for 2 people but it could have easily fitted 4. The hotel itself was nice and staff was helpful, they helped us book activities and with information. It was right in the medina on a busy street which had its good and bad sides. It was good to be right there and experience the medina but it was also crowded and loud, we could also hear the noise at night, it wasn't too bad though.

Lovely staff and great location unfortunately the room is reminiscent of the backpackers hostels I stayed in 30+ years ago especially for the price. The room was big but dingy and not too clean ant the awful music from the Venus bar next door was too load and intrusive until after 11 at night.

Cons: Die Fotos von Riad im Internet waren super. Danach haben wir uns auch für diese Unterkunft entschieden. Leider entsprachen die Fotos nicht der Realität. Riad ist schon sehr in Jahre gekommen und braucht dringend Erneuerung. Besonders das Bad war nicht ansprechend. Wir waren von dieser Unterkunft enttäuscht, weil wir laut Fotos was Besseres erwartet haben.

It would take so little to make this place a gem! We spent 2 nights here. The common rooms are beautiful and charming and this is a very historic riad. Unfortunately, the pictures of the rooms online are not at all what you get. They are dirty (there were foot imprints on a half-wall in our room) and smell moldy. The curtains are falling apart and shouldn’t be moved or else they will fall off. While I know the hotel will likely respond to this post that they appreciate my review and are sorry about the experience of the rooms, I wish instead they would increase their prices just slightly and give the rooms new paint, curtains and furniture - it would go such a long way and turn around all of these bad reviews they are getting!

Good location in the heart of the medina. Only a few minutes walk from te beach. Breakfast was very good. It would be nice to have a refrigerator in the room to cool your own drinks.
Cons: To go to Essaouira: make reservations for the bus. It’s hard to get there when you have nothing booked. Eventualy we shared a taxi from Marrakesh to the place. Much more expensive then we planned, but the place is worth visiting. If you like a beer; it’s hard to get there. In the medina we found only one place close to the citywall (The Hole). We had a lot of fun there and the prices are cheap (3,5 euro for a beer). On the beach it’s easier to get but more expensive.

The location was perfect, right in the center of the Souk. The bed was very comfortable but a bit short so I wouldn't suggest it for tall people. The room was spacious and furnished in the typical Moroccan style. The riad was just beautiful. The breakfast was really tasty and the waiter very friendly.

Since 2007 I have been staying more than 7 times at this beautiful romantic and very charming traditional Moroccan Riad. It is very well situated in the heart of the old Medina, surrounded by shops, restaurants and art galleries and walking distance to the beach and fishing port. The two hosts Said and Brahim are great guys and always make me feel at home in their beautiful old romantic Riad. The riad is offering a 3 course dinner, which I can strongly recommend. Overall I can say I love this place where you can enjoy breakfast on the rooftop terrace. By far, my favorite Riad in Morocco!

I wish we could have stayed longer! Everything was perfect - the room spacious, well decorated, comfortable and super clean, the staff welcoming and kind, eager to respond to our questions. One of the best breakfast we had in all Morocco and at the same time a calm environment to enjoy an evening mint tea after a day's exploration. A gorgeous riad, in a very central and accessible area. Truly loved staying there and highly recommend!

Die Lage war hervorragend, mitten in der Medina, sehr angenehm und ruhig. Das Riad besticht durch viel Charm, Farben, Pflanzen und Bauart. Das Frühstück war traditionell und dadurch nicht sehr vielseitig, doch für uns ausreichend (ansonsten kann immer nachbestellt werden).
Cons: Es war schwierig, das Zimmer zu lüften. Da das Bad kein Fenster oder Lüftung hatte, war Schimmelgeruch in der Luft. Es wirkte leider auch nicht so sauber (zum Beispiel schien uns die Seifenschale nicht gereinigt). Der Frühstückraum war etwas dunkel, und trotzdem sehr 'nett'.

The Riad was super central, right at one of the main streets. There was a cute kepap shop right across and a modern coffee place just a couple meters away. The room service was also top, got ourselves a mint tea nearly every night and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The room in general was very pretty and the structure with the bed upstairs was fantastic- loved it. The terrace is very spacious and nice to chill on the evening.
Cons: Unfortunatly the central location also meant loud nights- there is no aircon, so we kept the windows open. The room was quite dusty, which made our stay a little uncomfortable (allergic reaction-the sniffles coming). At the end we couldn't pay by card (unluckily most of the ATMs didn't have money left on Sunday, we had to check 5 ATMs to finally get some cash...)

We have just returned from a week here. Hotel was very clean, our room was more of a suite than a room as it included 2 sofas, two armchairs and 2coffee tables. Bed was very comfortable and the bed linen and towels were changed every day. The breakfast was excellent consisting of: Always a mini baguette, local yogurt, jam, honey, orange juice, m’smen, fruit and hot beverage of choice. Then variably a brioche, a couscous cake or pancake with either boiled egg or cheese. It was very filling and the staff were always very helpful. The proprietors were friendly and helpful from advising on local areas of interest to arranging our taxi back to the airport. We are looking forward to returning and have already recommended it to friends and family.

The place is conveniently located in the Medina. The staff was pleasant. Shower pressure was excellent and there was hot water. Breakfast was nicely done.
Cons: Rooms seem a bit tired and smelled like mold. Also the common areas, like the rooftop, need updating. Overall we’ve stayed in better and less expensive riads in Essaouira.

Très beau Ryad du 18ème placé en pleine médina. Établissement bien tenu avec du personnel à l’écoute des voyageurs. Devant partir de très bonne heure le matin, le directeur a proposé de nous faire servir le petit déjeuner avec une demie heure d’avance. Le personnel nous a servi très gentiment un délicieux repas avec orange pressée et yaourt maison. L’organisation de notre départ avec porteur jusqu’au taxi en dehors de la médina a été parfait.

El lugar tiene muchos cuadros hermosos y tienen el detalle de tener floreros pequeños en todas partes con rosas naturales y muchas plantas alrededor. El desayuno es abundante. La separación de la cama con el resto del cuarto le da mucha elegancia al lugar. Los muebles son hermosos, la combinación de colores en el cuarto lo hace ver elegante. Realmente disfruté el espacio y lamenté haber ido a Essauria solo por una noche.

I liked the location and the spacious room (we booked a room with 4 beds).
Cons: It was damp in our room and everything looked quite outdated. The carpets were full of little stones so it seems they weren’t vacuumed before. The shower also quite outdated. The breakfast terrace was always windy and above all there was construction going on. So there was some noise during breakfast and also later on. I wouldn’t recommend.

Hotel staff were very helpful, accommodating and friendly. There are nice communal areas and roof terrace. Lovely breakfast. Room was clean and comfortable. Only a small amount of noise outside at night. Generally very quiet. On our final morning we had to leave early before breakfast, so the staff packed us up a breakfast picnic bag each, which was very much appreciated.

This is one of my absolute favorite places in the world to stay. The entire staff, from reception to kitchen to cleaning personal is very very kind and very very professional. Outstanding value for money. The Riad itself is gorgeues , the rooms are spacious and beautiful , with a proper living area with couches and table . We extended our stay for another 3 days directly with the Riad. It´s been my second time to stay here ( first was in 2017 )

Excelente todo! Una maravilla de sitio =) Ubicación inmejorable, en el centro de Essaouira. Personal super amable y dispuesto a ayudarnos en todo.

The manager was very kind and helpful. The driver Abdershim was awesome. He took us everywhere for a fair price.
Cons: The shower was spreading water everwhere, so we had to hold it all the time.

Eine kleine Ruheoase in bester Lage. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit, man hat sich sehr gut aufgehoben gefühlt. das Riad ist ein guter Ort um zu entspannen und den marokkanischen Charme zu genießen.
Cons: Für ältere Menschen könnte die Unterkunft etwas anstrengend sein, da man teilweise sehr viele Treppen bewältigen muss.
