Cons: Difficult to move around if you have mobility issues. I was given a room that had two sets of stairs to get to it and one of them didn’t have any railings to hold on to. This was my second stay at this hotel and none of my suggestions were taken into account. Similar access problem to get into the hotel if you are handicapped. No ramp nor railings to climb the front steps of the main entrance and no other access was proposed. Otherwise it’s a beautiful, luxurious hotel in a beautiful setting opposite the Opera National de Bordeaux.

We had a fantastic stay at InterContinental Madrid. Everything about our visit was excellent. The food was truly exceptional – delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. It was one of the highlights of our stay. Our room had a balcony overlooking one of the main streets of Madrid, which gave us a wonderful view of the lively atmosphere of the city. The service was outstanding and the entire stay felt very comfortable and luxurious. It was a wonderful experience and we would definitely love to come back. Highly recommended

Cons: Решили отпраздновать моё 30-летие и сняли стандартный номер на двоих. О том, что это особое событие, мы предупредили заранее. В итоге нам предоставили номер с окнами на коридор самого отеля и стены. При регистрации нам предложили доплатить за улучшение вида из окна, что уже насторожило, при этом нас не предупредили, какой именно вид из окна в нашем номере — по сути, никакого. К тому же окна в номере невозможно полностью открыть или раздвинуть шторы, так как люди проходят из коридора напротив и могут заглянуть. Отдельный вопрос к отделу маркетинга. Мы хотели узнать, возможно ли организовать фотосессию в стенах отеля, и оставили запрос 23 декабря прошлого года, однако ответ получили только через полтора месяца. Считаю, что для отеля уровня 5 звёзд такой срок ответа абсолютно неприемлем. Что касается украшения номера: нас ожидала лишь открытка и миниатюрное пирожное. Отдельного внимания заслуживает мини-бар в номере, который занимает весь холодильник и в целом лишён логики. Ценообразование выглядит оскорбительным — это очевидная попытка выжать максимум из постояльцев, о заботе о клиенте здесь говорить не приходится. Также вызывает вопросы формат предлагаемых товаров: кому нужна маленькая бутылка вина или шампанского? В таком случае лучше не предлагать ничего. Думаю, это также относится к работе отдела маркетинга, который, к сожалению, не адаптирован к современным реалиям и продолжает работать по принципам 2006 года. Мы были в этом отеле в первый и последний раз, так как он абсолютно не соответствует заявленному уровню сервиса и отношению к гостям.

I was fortunate to choose this hotel for my first stay in Bordeaux. From start to finish I could not have asked for a better experience. I was there for 4 nights travelling a a woman on my own. The staff were exceptional and the spa a beautiful space to relax. Sadly I did not eat in their restaurants but did visit the bar and was very well looked after. My room was spacious and immaculately cleaned every day. Special thanks to George the concierge and Romaine front of house who helped with tec assistance. I would recommend this hotel and look forward to returning .

We came in just for drinks in the hall. As we are in Bordeaux I asked for a glass bordeaux, and my wife a glass proseco . We were served with some tasteless peanuts and a few olives. We decided for a second round. The bill was € 68,—. Travelling all over the world, we are used to hotel prices, but this was extreme expensive.

Sadly, the quality of the service is not matching other 4-5-star hotels or other IC hotels. Indeed, they ruined a jacket after spilling a couple of beverages on it, which is not the issue, but there was absolutely no follow-through; we had to constantly ask them for an update as of now, they haven't fixed it yet. If you go there, do NOT wear expensive jackets/clothes, as they won't help you if they ruin them! No sense of urgency, of PUTTING the customer first. Go to Caudalie (Pessac Leognan); it is not that far, and there the standards are aligned with what you can expect for the price you pay!!

We checked in early this morning and feel compelled to write a review as we have received the very best service since the moment we walked into the lobby. We arrived on a super early flight and while our room was not ready (why would it be at 9.30am) we were recommended to go to the hotel restaurant for breakfast, which was superb. We were seated at the window overlooking the incredible opera house. We were warmly greeted at the spa and shown the gym. We are looking forward to using this amenity. Our room on the third floor is classic French perfection. Gorgeous colours, chic decor and well laid out with a separate small dressing room. Everything is super chic from the Byredo toiletries to the beautiful tapestry walls. We spent sunset at the rooftop bar, enjoying the views and champagne before heading to dinner. The Opera house is illuminated at night and is stunning. We cannot wait to see what other delights await in beautiful Bordeaux. A huge thank you to the Intercontinental staff for a wonderful first day.

Very high end and helpful service, nothing was too difficult and they arranged with no difficulty or effort on our part wine shipments back to the UK. Spa area is particularly lovely and highly recommended. Rooftop bar very pleasant. Well maintained and in very good condition, traditional high end luxury.

Lovely hotel and great upgrade- I have stayed at this hotel many times for work and for cruises. It is always nice. We were upgraded to the best suite ever- an ambassador suite. Wow. The lobby is lovely, the food is good and the location is great. Make sure you belong to the club (you pay $100 or so) and it entitles you to upgrades if available and lovely amenities.

We had the most wonderful experience in the Orangerie bar. We had planned on visiting the roof top bar but unfortunately it was closed due a private function. When the gentleman by the name of Hugues overheard that I was celebrating a milestone birthday, he kindly sent a selection of desserts and candle to our table to mark the occasion and to make up for our disappointment at the roof top bar being closed. It was such a lovely gesture. The orangerie setting is divine and we loved our cocktails and champagne. Thank you so much. I would definitely return!

Large hotel well located in the city centre. Nice room, but some street noise on Friday and Saturday nights, better on Sunday and Monday nights. It is near the hub for the trams and I recommend downloading the TBM ticketing app. It makes travel to attractions such as La Cite du Vin by tram much easier. Front of house staff welcoming and helpful and housekeeping very good. They kept our room well serviced, even closing our curtains. We met the maids and it was obvious how keen they were to please and do anything for us to make our stay enjoyable. What a contrast then, the hotel restaurant (the one on the ground floor). We ate there twice. Dreadful service: You get taken to your (reserved) table and left there with no menus or attention. You ask for things (in French) like water, desserts, the bill and they never come. We saw other tables sending food back. What service there is is slow, and for long periods serving staff just disappear completely. The restaurant really lets the rest of the hotel down.

For the price I would expect not to be woken at all hours of the morning due to chairs scratching against the floor and objects being dropped in a room above me. Really really bad

The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. But looking out on a dingy air shaft was not what we expected when we reserved a premium room. (The decor, both in our room and in the very dark hallways, was curiously depressing, except for our bathroom, which was lovely.) Nor did we expect the toilet to be separate from the rest of the bathroom, down a hall, and without any handwashing facilities. Or for the floors to be bare, scratched wood and the (tiny) closet to hold only five hangers. Or for there to be no menu for room service in the room (we arrived after the restaurant had closed) except on the TV—but the battery in our remote was too low to work properly. Breakfast, sadly, is entirely mediocre. Sigh. You might put a hook on the back of the bathroom door and a shelf for toiletries in the shower, IHG.

The hotel staff are very good. Unfortunately the hotel is not. In the last couple of years we have stayed in a number of hotels in this price point. We have felt they are a reward for hard work. This hotel was a great disappointment. Poor beds, poor pillows and not a great comfortable stay. Our view from our window was of what appeared to be squatters with trash, vacuum parts etc hanging out their window. The breakfast was better than Hotel Intercontinental Marseille but everything else was lacking. Highly overpriced but as is todays mantra, they did say they are sorry.

I wish I could give this hotel a higher rating. The location is excellent and most of the staff were wonderful, but our experience was not worthy of 5 stars. We booked a premier room with balcony through our Virtuoso agency, but over our 3-night stay we had to change rooms three times. The first room (419) was a shoebox-sized space with a balcony accessible only by a stair, blocking any view — more of a “classic” room than the premier category we paid for. The second room (307) was a much better size but had an overwhelming sewer smell, apparently from recent rains, that made it impossible to stay in despite staff attempts to spray it away. Our final room on our last night (421) on the top floor was comfortable and odor-free, but by then the constant moving had taken away any sense of relaxation. No gesture beyond an apology was offered for the repeated inconvenience. Breakfast was good overall, but the egg chef was temperamental and unaccommodating - refusing orders when busy the aw one morning and unwilling to prepare scrambled eggs with cheese on request the third - insisting we take previously made eggs from the buffet and just add some cheese on top. This is simply not the level of service one expects from a 5-star property. While the location and most of the staff were excellent, with the repeated room issues, I could not recommend this hotel.

We treated ourselves to five nights here for our mini-moon in Autumn 2024. Of the three luxury hotels I've been lucky enough to stay in (Das Tegernsee near Munich, The Old Course in St Andrews, and here) this is the one to which I am least inclined to return. My most enduring memory will be what my wife and I now refer to as 'Coffee-gate'. Every morning at breakfast my wife ordered a cappuccino which she received as ordered with no fuss. My go to coffee order is an Americano, which I ordered in English on our first morning after the waiter had approached us in English. They brought me a filter coffee. I explained that I wanted 'de l'eau chaud et un espresso dans la meme tasse' (an Americano) which they then brought in its component parts (an espresso and a jug of hot water). On our second morning I ordered a cafe lungo, thinking this would be less ambiguous than an Americano. They brought me a filter coffee. When I explained my order to the waiter he brought me an espresso and a bottle of *cold* water. Once he understood what I wanted, I asked him for the French term for my coffee of choice. He told me 'un espresso allongé'. On our third morning I ordered un espresso allongé. The waiter brought me a filter coffee. Maybe this is my ignorance, but I would have expected breakfast staff at an upmarket hotel to be familiar with more than two types of coffee based drink. My main other criticism of this hotel also relates to the breakfast buffet. The pastries at breakfast tasted like they were from a supermarket multipack and were not of the bakery quality I'd expected from a top line French hotel. I'd also give this place a wide berth in the future due to the large number of loud Americans, but the hotel cannot help this. All staff were professional, friendly, and (with the exception of coffee-gate) helpful.

Cons: Το δωμάτιο , αν και ανώτερης κατηγορίας είχε πολύ κακή διαρρύθμιση και ελάχιστο ωφέλιμο χώρο (δεν είχαμε πού να σκουμπήσουμε τη βαλίτσα). Είχε τρία μπαλκόνια σε επίπεδο ψηλότερο του δωματίου ( 4 σκαλιά) και συνεπώς όταν ο πελάτης βρισκόταν μέσα στο δωμάτιο η θέα ήταν ο τοίχος του μπαλκονιού. Προτιμήστε classic δωμάτιο. Επίσης το air- condition ήταν κεντρικά ρυθμισμένο στους 19 βαθμούς - το δωμάτιο ήταν παγωμένο.

I was there 8-12 August 2025 with my husband. The room was beautiful and very comfortable but was far from the elevator and I asked at the reception to give me the same but more close to the lobby she tried to give more complicated room,smaller and lower floor,I kept my room, the next day going to get the breakfast and we order coffee and the server comes after 20 minutes, leaving at 10 am from the room and turning around 3:10 to the room to relax and my room wasn’t ready the cleaning lady was there and cleaned the room, was upset and disappointed and called the manager not the general because he wasn’t there but another manager that she apologized in the meantime the cleaning get another 30 minutes to finish the room,another thing was when my husband asked the concierge guy where to find the see food restaurant he sent us in the restaurant was out from the business 2 years and we walked 25 minutes to find out. I am disappointed from the people who worked there, they are not professional or is very poor management. The hotel is beautiful but needs the right people to run it.

Some areas of the hotel were worn down. Strange to have a toilet without a sink. Service in Bordeux resturant slow as staff appeared very busy. However the staff when engaged are very nice and try and help as much as they can.

C’est toujours un plaisir de venir ici ! Le service voiturier, l’accueil, le personnel de chambre, les serveurs / serveuses.. tous agréables ! Nous mangeons toujours à la brasserie le Bordeaux le midi un délice ! Et le soir dégustation de cocktails et samoussas au rooftop de l’hôtel une merveille ! Membre IHG nous avons pu bénéficier d’un départ tardif.. et c’était vraiment appréciable avec les enfants ! Nous avons eu aussi des pâtisseries et boissons offertes par l’hôtel au boudoir de Lea.. belle découverte, merci c’était un délice ! Le jour de notre départ, nous avons pu laisser plus tard que prévu notre voiture au parking de l’hôtel ainsi que les bagages , afin de profiter d’une après-midi à la rue Sainte Catherine juste à côté . Merci à toute l’équipe

Arriving Friday night, outside tables. Lots of vacant tables, but no attention from waiters as we were waiting by the gate. We sat down by one of the vacant tables - and suddenly we got attention afterall. And the waitress told us loud and clear that in France no one just took a table without waiting to be seated. I wanted to say that where I come from I am used to attentive and pleasant staff. But I didn’t. And if the table was vacant - why bother to bully the guests? She even started to clear the table demonstratively, before we had finished our wine. Of course we should have left, instead of letting us be treated like a dog poop under her shoe. Wine and food was ok. The waitress was not.

The hotel was centrally located across from the opera house and near the tram station. We found the staff to generally be unfriendly. They did their jobs but were not welcoming. Our room overlooked the opera house and tram rail. In the evening we could hear loud music playing until late in the evening. There was a music festival of some sort near the hotel. We could also hear people below our room talking because the restaurant and check in were there. During the day we could look out and see homeless people, one with a dog, sleeping by the doors of the opera house. In the morning a truck with a hose washed down the area and another machine came to sweep up the trash. The trash cans were overflowing on most days. Across from the hotel was an Apple Store on the street with most of the nice shopping. It was a pedestrian walkway with only the tram and bicycles to watch for.

Situated in the heart of Bordeaux, the Intercontinental was the perfect place to stay. It's an easy walk to many of the best sights in the city. Although we didn't take the modern tram to any more distant places, it runs directly in front of the hotel. The hotel staff was helpful and friendly. Our room (402) had a rather elongated layout, with separated bedroom, entryway, and desk areas. It had a small bathroom and a separate commode. The water temperature in the shower fluctuated quite a bit. As a bonus, our room had three separate balconies, with nice views over the city. A refrigerator, safe, and tea/coffee maker were provided. Breakfast was good, although preparation at the egg / omelet station was rather slow.

This hotel has an outstanding location opposite the Grand Theatre and a 2 star Michelin restaurant from Gordon Ramsey. You would expect that a luxury hotel chain would operate it. Unfortunately it’s run by Intercontinental. The rooms and public areas are tired and old fashioned. Below in the photos you will see: a) Poor finishing in the room with a piece of wood stuck behind the bed. b) Wiring below the TV on display. c) The leaking shower which not only went from boiling hot to cold to hot again due to poor plumbing but leaked on the floor. d) Old furniture and fittings. e) A lumpy bed. In addition a reception team who lacked real flexibility when we enquired about paying for an upgrade from our current room to a room with a separate shower. We have Platinum Ambassador Status in IHG AND we’re booked by Virtuoso. Both give upgrades subject to availability. If they had wished the Reception Team have the possibility of a double upgrade according to our agent; they clearly decided not to. Overall I would not recommend this clearly four star hotel. We’ve also stayed at the Mondrian Bordeaux which was excellent but not so central. Until the hotel owner puts their hand in their pocket to modernise this hotel; stay somewhere else.

The location was excellent

Cons: Unfortunately the service was very poor. Dirty plates from breakfast were regularly left in the room after cleaning. We made multiple requests with the concierge that were agreed and never transpired. We asked for additional children’s toiletries twice, we asked for early turn down service, we asked for takeaway recommendations amongst others and either we were told yes but they didn’t happen or we were told someone would phone us back and they never did. On check out we asked for our bags and child’s car seat to be taken to reception ready for us to get our taxi and no one turned up. When we phoned for assistance (there were a lot of stairs in the hotel so it was difficult to get everything down by ourselves) someone did come but didn’t get the car seat. It took so long we left 20 minutes late and incurred a €25 charge from the taxi for waiting. The swimming pool is part of the spa so it isn’t usable for guests under 6. The hotel did allow us in once but then told us, once we were already in, that our toddler needed to be quiet so we ended up leaving. There were also multiple stairs from outside the entrance to the room, so not a particularly toddler friendly hotel. All in all it was a great location, but ultimately not child friendly and with poor service.

The hotel is old and well maintained, however, the building of additions to the main building over the years created a logistical challenge for us to get to our room. We had to use two elevators and walk about a half of a city block to reach our room. It was a nuisance that we had to repeat several times a day. Our room was nice and quiet despite the proximity to city activity. The concierge was incredible; he was extremely knowledgeable and genuinely sought to help us on a couple of minor issues we had while staying. I've stayed at comparable hotels but the level of professionalism of the staff at the Intercontinental Bordeaux was singular. A memorable place.

A very nice hotel in a great location. Lovely atrium bar and a great base for exploring the city. We had some hiccups like booking a king bed but getting two doubles (which when I called they pushed together). The shower was ridiculous in our room - if you are over 5’8” you have to duck to get your hair wet. It’s an old hotel so stairs everywhere and winding hallways if that’s an issue. But it adds to the charm. Overall recommended.

Amazing historic hotel. Extraordinary service and attention to detail. Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Bordeaux. Keep in mind, it is a historic hotel (by American standards). Some floor tiles in the bathrooms had hairline cracks and the hardwood floor was a little rough (slippers provided) but we LOVED the way they integrated high-end fixtures and finishings while keeping the history of the room. Really amazing.

This was a bit of a disappointment of a hotel within the Intercontinental brand. The staff were very good, my Ambassador membership was recognised, the room clean and the breakfast was decent five star quality, but nothing exceptional. But I came away disappointed by the ambience of the hotel. Very sombre and gloomy in the corridors, the room was incredibly dark, with little natural light and at night time the lights were completely inadequate if you wanted to read a book or papers. There was no warmth, or joie de vivre to the hotel, very dated look and feel. And the electrics were a nightmare to turn all off with switches in odd places etc. And yet again a five star hotel treating customers as if they were in a lowly IBIS, with bathroom toiletries in bottles locked to the wall, without even a single bar of soap. I had treated my stay as a test run to bring my wife here in future, but frankly it's not worth it for the money. We'd be better off in a chateau outside the city.

This is a first rate hotel with all the facilities you would want, including a great rooftop bar and restaurant. The staff were exceptional and very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The location is perfect and close to shops, restaurants , tram stops as well as being centrally located to access all of the delights of Bordeaux.

Cons: Liked everything about this hotel. Only one small issue, our room had a toilet separate to the bathroom ( which we liked) but there was no sink in it for washing hands.

L'acceuil, la gentillesse de tous les personnels du Grand Hotel de Bordeaux et les services ainsi que les soins apportés à notre séjour. Nous avons dîner au restaurant Le Bordeaux et ici également nous avons reçu un accueil et un accompagnement des plus chaleureux, les plats étaient succulent et les desserts savoureux. De notre arrivé à table et jusqu'à notre départ nous avons été accompagnés par des professionnels et d'une gentillesse exceptionnelle ( un grand merci à Paul et à ses collègues). Le lendemain matin, nous avons pris un petit-déjeuner somptueux dans un cadre romantique face au Grand Théâtre et la encore toujours le même acceuil avec toujours autant de gentillesse et de courtoisie. Un très grand merci à toutes ces personnes qui par leur professionnalisme font vivrent ce Grand Hotel de Bordeaux et nous reviendrons avec un immense plaisir.

I love staying at this hotel. it is definitely the best in Bordeaux and right by the opera house and the main shopping streets. I and 4 friends arrived at the Terrace Bar at 3pm on a Saturday and waited patiently in line to be seated at the terrace bar. People in front of us on the queue were seated. However, when we were next to be seated we were told by a waiter that there were no available tables, this despite many, many empty tables and they were not at all busy. We politely asked the staff member why they weren’t available as they clearly were, he decided then to seat us. No sooner had he seated us with menus, he returned to our table and asked us to leave and the reason given was that his manager said 5 people couldn’t sit at the one table!!!! Unbelievable.!! We then politely suggested that 2 of us sit at one table and 3 at another (again I have to stress that there were multiples of free tables). He called his manager over who was very rude and she asked us to leave. However, she (the manager) then told the waiter to seat us beside the bar. This arrogant attitude displayed by the staff here is disgraceful and very embarrassing for customers. We really should have left after this appalling behaviour but we stayed and had one awful cocktail and then left. Our group of friends are widely travelled and have never ever been treated so shoddily anywhere in the world!. Avoid this bar.

Our "suite" had a very odd layout, long narrow, not gracious. We had an interior courtyard view, which was no view at all. The heat did not work properly and we were often cold in the room. Management brought in two ugly portable heaters which did not help. Would never stay here again, nor would I recommend the hotel

Not a 5* hotel. Room was dark and gloomy, even with all the lamps on. Shower was in the tub and very difficult/dangerous to get in and out of - we called it the death shower. Had mould on the tiles as well. Carpet needed replacing. Would have been nice to be able to open the windows and allow in some fresh air, but they were all locked. Good location - though getting a taxi in/out was a bit awkward as they had to drive around/through the square. We had an excellent meal at Pressoir d’Argent.

The room had a very strong off putting perfume smell, possibly room spray. We had to open the window to air out the room. It was so strong, we had to leave the window open, We had to ask several times for facial tissue for our bathroom. They would agree to send some, but didn’t follow through. In the early evening we asked the front desk for water for our room, and they advised that everything was closed and that they were unable to do so. We went out and purchased water at a nearby store. Bordeaux was beautiful, but we were underwhelmed by the hotel’s customer care. The lower rating for “around the property” was due to construction.

The location and the architecture of the building were good. But there is little else to complement. The food was bad. The staff were confused, haphazard. Our room was small, dated, the carpets and furniture were worn. The halls were worn too, and smelled bad. The shower was a hosepipe with no water pressure. The staff told us we were not allowed to use the pool or rooftop area. Even as residents. Yet they filled it constantly with visitors. The lifts broke and we had to walk the levels up to our room. It was a terrible stay.

Superb location and excellent hotel. the concierge team were so so helpful and the rooms are beautiful. Opposite the opera house you can be better placed to explore the stunning Bordeaux.

Cons: There was a little mix up on reception which was soon sorted, personally I would not expect plastic flowers in reception of a five star hotel ( I was at the Corinthian London the week before and their fresh flowers would put these to shame). On a Sunday the hotel pool does not open until after 9am which is disappointing. On arrival the entry to the car parking is tricky to work out and compared to some other hotels we stayed they sent in advance very explicit instructions which they may wish to consider. That said, the front house team were very helpful in sorting once we had arrived.

The staff were truly excellent at every level: they were always pleasant, polite and eager to help. The location was also superb, and breakfast was delicious with lots of choice. And I liked the quietness of my room, and the bedside lights were good for reading. I loved the rooftop garden too. The hotel felt luxurious and always a treat to come back to.

Cons: Three things could have been better: the room was too dark when I needed to be able to clearly see, such as when packing my suitcase; an overhead light would have been useful. Also, the bath was difficult to get in and out of. This is important, because it was the only way to either shower or use the bath. And I had great difficulty with the air conditioning and gave up trying to use it, even though a kind staff member came and explained it to me. I just put on more warm clothing!

Cons: Nos colocaram no quarto errado quando chegamos. No dia seguinte informamos na recepção e mudaram nosso quarto para a frente da Ópera. Tudo ótimo.

Cons: Ma chambre manquait un peu de grande lumière.

- l’emplacement (proche Tram, parkings à proximité et restaurants, centre ville) - l’incroyable gentillesse, serviabilité, politesse, élégance, générosité, bienveillance et amabilité du personnel de l’entrée à la sortie de l’hôtel (toutes professions confondues) - le confort en tout ce qui concerne l’intérieur de la chambre - les petites attentions pourtant inattendues pour notre anniversaire de mariage dès notre arrivée - le petit déjeuner royal très varié et pour tous les goûts (mention spéciale pour la pâte à tartiner qui est à tomber) avec un personnel tout autant attentionné !!!

Cons: Nous n’avons jamais réussi à faire fonctionner le pommeau de douche de la baignoire mais nous ne l’avons pas signalé avant la fin du séjour car nous avions une douche pour régler le souci

suite was specious, I had an opera view , you can open big window for fresh aitr and to hear city sounds. Staff was amazing, bar area and breakfast above and beyond

Check-In was amazing, desk was kind and service was top notch. We had a late arrival and the concierge arranged last minute reservations nearby quickly at a nice place. Rooms are agin, but clean and beds were comfortable and all was very clean. Well done.

The service was impeccable. The service at the orangerie could be slightly improved but the in room service was amazing. We had the best time. The spa was absolutely fantastic. The restaurants were amazing and the breakfast was gorgeous
